Warwick Way - Eating Outside and One Way Traffic

On 12th April local restaurants will be able to open up their doors once again and offer alfresco seating. Pimlico's local residents associations, The Pimlico Forum, FREDA and our local councillors have all been working hard to ensure that our local businesses will have the additional pavement space to trade and survive this spring. There have been many meetings. PGRA's view, along with The Pimlico Forum, FREDA and our local councillors was to return Warwick Way to a temporary one way street which worked so well last summer. WCC was not keen, but after several meetings and emails the upshot is this. Deborah Findlay was representing PGRA at these meetings.

See below the letter confirming the new road status from 12th April.

Good afternoon,

Thank you all for taking the time last Wednesday to discuss the temporary al fresco dining measures in Pimlico to start next month.

Further to our discussion last week, we have reflected on the views expressed by the local community and have taken those on board and will go back to a one-way system down Warwick Way (westbound) as part of the interim scheme for outside dining in Pimlico.

The diversion route for Eastbound traffic will be northbound on Belgrave Road and along Gillingham Street, Wilton road, the short section of Longmoore street, Upper Tachbrook Street and then finally Warwick Way to Vauxhall Bridge Road. This is a change from the previous 1 way system to reflect the concerns raised in relation to the diversion down Longmoore street. This proposal, known as Option 2A, is the only one that can be introduced without significant additional work being done into changing the phasing of traffic lights which could not be achieved in a timely manner.

We will also as requested be including the Churton Street businesses within the Pimlico schemes as we did last summer. As this will now be a one-way way system on Warwick Way, we will be using barriers as we did last year for these temporary measures.

As always, it remains our priority to strike the right balance between residential and business amenity. Therefore, we will keep these schemes under review and make changes as and when necessary to protect our communities and better reflect the needs of our city.

Thank you again for your time last week.

Yours sincerely,

Cllr Melvyn Caplan

Deputy Leader & Cabinet Member for City Management

Ward Member for Little Venice"
