Queen Mother Sport Centre

The Council has started work on possible options for new housing in Westminster on six sites that it owns across Westminster and one of these sites is the Queen Mother Sports Centre
This is very early work and there is no certainty that any development will happen on this site or any other. The Pimlico Neighbourhood Forum (PNF) Steering Group has been invited to some early discussions along with FREDA. The Pimlico Grid Residents' Associaton is a member of FREDA. Both FREDA and the PNF believe it would be helpful to hold a meeting now to get extra input from PNF members and FREDA reps (a PGRA rep will be attending) to get a wide range of views to help the Steering Group. PNF are however bound by the Pimlico Neighbourhood Plan.
The Council is considering two main types of scheme:
The first sort of scheme involves essentially keeping the existing building, but with possible upgrades or refurbishment. It isn’t yet clear whether it would be possible to add more housing to the existing building, but at most there would be limited scope for this and housing is the reason the Council has launched this exercise in the first place.
The second sort of scheme would involve more substantial development of the sports centre. This might be just on the envelope of the existing building, but could extend to include the Parkinson’s Society offices on Vauxhall Bridge Road (Council-owned), and/or the frontage on Wilton Road opposite Sainsbury’s (the current owners already have a planning permission for shops, offices and housing).
The Pimlico Neighbourhood Plan contains a set of policies for the QMSC block. Fabrizio and Chiara, architects living in the Pimlico Forum area, are helping PNF to make an informed input, and will talk about these policies in the presentation.
This meeting is open to all member of the PNF. If you are not a member and would like to join (membership is free) the link to join is https://pimlicoforum.org/membership-2.
The meeting is being held on Wednesday 14th January in Dryburgh Hall (entrance in Alderney Street, north of Warwick Way) starting at 7:30pm.
